Apostle Plants In Bloom

Hello again,

I am taking a quick break from planting seeds, tending to fragile seedlings and bringing all of my Hibiscus plants outside to add some color to the yard. Not to mention designing my new line of wedding cake toppers featuring my carved birds. There are so many fun things to do, I really wish that I didn't need to sleep!

I wanted to share with you a few pictures of my Walking Iris plants that are blooming in my greenhouse and on the kitchen counter. They are one of my favorite plants as they propagate themselves by putting off a stalk or stem that bends to the ground where an offshoot attaches itself into the soil. So amazing!!

Happy gardening!

Signs Of A Southern Spring

Hello,
I have been playing in the dirt, starting seeds, propagating plant favorites, and creating, but not blogging. With the encouragement of some friends and customers I will try my best to blog at least once a week. I am trying for daily but pressure gives me writer's block. I wouldn't make it writing for a daily newspaper would I?

Last week, while taking a weekly trip to our local library with my daughter Hope, we oohed and ahhed over this Japanese Magnolia tree. It seems early to be in bloom, but we're not complaining.

Happy gardening,
Helena

Friday, May 29, 2009

Hello,
I have been having so much fun playing in the dirt, planting lots of flowers and landscaping our yard that I haven't been spending much time on the computer.
I would like to share a few photos from last Friday when Matt had a rare day off and we got a cup of coffee and spent the morning walking through the historic district of Beaufort, taking photos and enjoying the scenery.

Guess what is in bloom right now? Magnolias, and oh what a beautiful scent they have !!

I am off to pick up Hope and take some photos of a Magnolia that I discovered yesterday at pottery class that is nice and low, perhaps I will paint it when I get home.

If you would like to see my latest pottery tiles go here ,
and if you would like to see my folk art and carvings, this is the place to go here.
Have a very happy Friday.
Hugs,
Helena

Call Me Crazy

Hey there,

Am I completely insane beginning blog #3???

It's a long story, wanna hear it?
I have had the business name Snow Pond Primitives since we lived in Maine 13 years ago and decided that the name with Primitives included was a little too limiting for me, although I am still using it for my carvings and folk art.
The quest for a new name can be an easy light bulb moment event or a daunting task like mine was.

I wanted something using my name, but CHUTJIAN doesn't go with anything unless I was a chef and I could rhyme it with kitchen.

Months and months went by and hubby and I were sitting on the porch at our old house outside of Charleston, looking at the completely overgrown flower bed that surrounded our huge Magnolia tree. Out of the blue he said we should put the bench,"under the Magnolia tree." At that moment as soon as I heard it, there was my name. (bench photo courtesy of Liss's friend)
Not wanting to give the hubs all of the credit, and since I thought it sounded better as "Beneath The Magnolia Tree" there it was.

So why the heck did I go with the name "Helena C Studios" you ask?
ummm, well, we could blame it on the fact that Matthew, our oldest son was in Iraq walking the streets of Fallujah and my mental state was teetering on the edge, or that the name had too many letters for Etsy to accept. Or the fact that I did want to use my name so I could never switch biz names again and drive myself and everyone around me insane... I can't really remember.
I would use this name in a second if I ever do decide to open my greenhouse, but for now it is for this blog. This blog that I have had trouble deciding what to put on it, so for now with Matt's insisting (and he isn't usually very insistent with my art) I will blog about my southern garden and bird photography...until I change my mind that is :)
If you're exhausted from reading this, I apologize:)

Hugs,
Helena
